Splitting Nails or Fragile Fingernails. There are things you can do to avoid this. Apply a rich formula handcream. Protect your nails from water, because water can dry out nails, and this causing them to split. Wearing gloves when doing dishes or cleaning is a good to protect your nails. Limit use of nail polish remover, since it contains alcohol which can make nails brittle.

Home Manicure
To do home manicure, you will need:
- four way buffer
- a pair of nail clippers (do not use cuticle nippers or scissors because they will cause your cuticle thicker)
- soft toothbrush
- cuticle oil
- base polish, colored polish and top coat polish
- hand towel
- a bowl filled with warm water
- antibacterial soap
- a bottle of cuticle oil
- Wash one hand in the warm water for five minutes.
- Brush the tops of the nails and the white tip.
- Dry your nails with hand towel. Rub the towel up your nail, pushing against the cuticle. This will make your cuticles naturally exfoliated.
- Trim your nails using the nail clippers.
- On your 4 way buffer, feel the different grits by feeling how rough each part is. Use the roughest section and file the free-edge, round the corner. Using the slightly smoother surface, go back along the edges, removing the filings that you can see.
- Rub your finger across each edge, smoothing rough places with this same part of the file.
- If you are not going to use any polish, use the smoothest surface to buff the tops of your nails to remove the light ridges. Buff the nail with the rubber section of your 4 way buffer.
- If you are using colored polish, apply your base coat, do not apply it too thick.
- If you only want a clear polish, apply two coats of this base coat and let it dry.
- Apply your top coat and let it dry.
- Apply a tiny amount of cuticle oil.
- Massage into the nails and cuticles. Done!

How To Shape Your Nails
How to shape your nails: if your nails have different lengths, start by trimming them all to the length of the shortest nail. Sometimes toe nail clippers do a better job because they cut a straight line and not the curved cut you get from fingernail clippers. Cut each nail straight across and then take the tiniest clip on the edges, just enough to remove the point but not enough to cut down into the side of he nail. Do not cut the sides of the nail since it will make your nails weak. After nails trimmed and have same length, use emery board to smooth out all the edges. Move in one direction.

Do Not Grow Your Nails Too Long
Do not grow your nails too long. The long nails, nicely shaped, wearing good nail paint looks amazing, but actually very unhygienic. Better cut your nails regularly. Do not grow them more than the nail height. Trim the nails using nail-cutter. The short nails would not carry dirt, as they will always be clean. If your nails are short then, while you wash your nails and legs they would get cleaned.
